Dementia care at home earns high praise

Cherry Blossom Manor, in German Road, Bramley, was given the accreditation developed by the dementia care specialists at Barchester Healthcare.

The 10-60-06 programme was developed and trialled by the dementia team at the company, and will replace its current dementia care programme to ensure that the care services provided by Barchester’s Memory Lane Communities for people living with dementia is the best it can be.

The care home has implemented significant improvements to the personalised dementia care services it offers and the way that staff are trained to better understand how it is to live with dementia.

The home was visited after it had implemented the new programme by Barchester’s Dementia care specialist for the region along with director of dementia care, Caroline Baker and deputy director of dementia care, Jason Corrigan, who found the home had met all the new standards and announced that the home has achieved the 10-60-06 accreditation.

Caroline said: “Cherry Blossom Manor staff have worked really hard to achieve accreditation and we saw some moving examples of how the criteria has been implemented in their Memory Lane Community and throughout the whole home.

“Congratulations to all the staff – it was a pleasure to visit you and to meet some of the amazing people living at the home.”

General manager at Cherry Blossom, Gigi Despojo, said: “We are delighted to have achieved the 10-60-06 dementia care accreditation. The changes we have made to our Memory Lane Community and the services we provide there have made a big difference to people’s lives and wellbeing.

“Both staff and residents’ family members have been especially delighted with the impact of the improved training programme.

“It is noticeable that people are being supported in a more person-centred way and staff have embedded what they learned into their everyday work.”

A certificate and trophy will be presented to the home during an event tomorrow (Friday).
