AN INTER-SPORTS match and party will culminate the end of a 24-hour fundraising drive for a Basingstoke charity.

The event at Basingstoke Rugby Club, in Down Grange, Pack Lane will be a chance for those who have raised funds on Ark Day to celebrate their efforts at the end of the day on June 21.

Kicking off at 7pm with an inter-sports match between Basingstoke Rugby Club and Basingstoke Town, the ticketed event will see the match split into four quarters consisting of football and touch rugby, with the teams competing to win the first ever Ark Day Trophy.

The exciting fundraising finale will include half-time fun on the pitch, a cross bar challenge and beat the goalie.

Andy Jackson, chair of the Ark Day organising committee, said: “The Ark Day team are grateful to Basingstoke RFC for hosting these key events, and to everyone who is making them happen.

“We hope to see many of the people who are supporting Ark Day at the fire walk, ‘Battle of Basingstoke’ sports match, and the party, which will be a great way to round-off this special day of fundraising.”

Participants will be a mixture of first team, youth and coaches who will take to the pitch to support the Ark Cancer Centre Charity, which is raising £5 million to build an NHS cancer treatment centre at Basingstoke hospital.

Those who have supported the fundraising event during the day are invited along to watch and can book a free ticket online to the Ark Day Evening Extravaganza.

The fire walk taking place ahead of the match, with brave participants walking bare foot across hot coals, creating a thrilling spectacle for both those taking part and those watching.

This is being sponsored by Beaufort Financial, which means that all £25 of each sign up will go to the charity.

A barbecue will be available for hungry fundraisers who have built up an appetite with all their efforts throughout the day, with all proceeds going to the Ark Cancer Centre Charity.

Following the match, a party will begin at 9pm, ending the fundraising drive on a high with celebrations continuing until late in the evening.
