TWO young people will be taking part in a different sort of half term activity- pedalling from Hartley Wintney to Paris for charity.

Evie Moran, from Winchfield, will be joined by fellow cycling club member Harry Dillamore, from Cove, as they look to bike to the French capital to raise money and awareness for the MS Society.

Leaving on Tuesday, the 12-year-olds will be trying to average around 55 miles a day to complete the journey of around 200 miles in four days.

Evie’s mother Lara said: “They both love cycling, and we’ve been on holiday to France before, when she said that she would like to cycle the journey to Paris.

“Seeing the Eiffel Tower is a big draw as well, as it is so iconic, in addition to the fact that it is a challenge outside the UK.”

The pair met through both being members of the Palmer Park Velo Club and have been training hard in preparation for the race, having started in January this year, and completed several 50-mile courses already.

The event will be in aid of the MS Society, with the cycling duo already having raised more than £2,000 through various efforts, including raising £500 with a bingo night, and £400 with a lucky number draw.

The idea for supporting the charity came about because Evie’s aunt has suffered with the disease for the past 30 years, with dramatic changes in the past 18 months.

Lara added: “I thought it was a brilliant idea when she first mentioned it, and it was a nice opportunity to do something to help.

“She is really keen and I thought that it could be something to look back on and be proud of.

“I think the amount that they have raised so far is great, and is a really good motivator for when they get tired.”

The cycling pair will be joined as they cycle by both Lara, and Harry’s father, all keen cyclists, as they go from Hartley Wintney to Portsmouth, take an overnight ferry to le Havre, and then on to Paris.

Lara said: “They have been raring to go, and while there are slight nerves, there is a mixture of excitement in there as well.

“While it might be a surprise how tired they get, I think that they can do it.”
