I AM often asked why so many of my Flashback Thursday’s are based around the 1980s.
This is because I grew up in the 80s and noticed so many changes happening in and around the town.
Sky high office blocks were appearing, the town centre was extended with the opening of The Malls, and learner drivers could finally take their driving tests in Basingstoke when the new test centre opened at Brighton Hill.
I’m always finding an amazing selection of photos and news from the Gazette archives. This week is another selection of photos from the early 1980s.
You can get involved with Flashback Thursday. Send photos tonflashbackthursday@gmail.com or by post to Flashback Thursday, Gazette House, Pelton Road Basingstoke RG21 6XD.
