A NEW community radio station is set to launched by a Basingstoke charity.

June 3 will see the mayor of Basingstoke and Deane cut the ribbon and open Helping Hands for the Blind’s radio station.

Helping Hands Community Radio [HHCR] will broadcast on the internet and via the TuneIn app from its base at the Roger Morris Centre, to serve Basingstoke and the surrounding areas.

The station will serve as a community platform for charities and voluntary groups to have a local voice, as well as providing training opportunities for local people.

Helping Hands for the Blind chairperson David Chatten-Smith said: “Our aim is to be a genuine community station, run by the community for the community.

“We will showcase everything that is good about Basingstoke by promoting local events, activities and inviting local community groups and individuals to tell their stories on air and share their experiences with others.”
