WITH a little help from his friends, a six-year-old is bidding to top the charts with a charity single.

Teaming up with songwriter James Pryce and vocalist Nick Fowden, Max Edney and his friends have launched the single ‘In Our Bones’.

Max has Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), better known as brittle bone disease, and ever since the diagnosis, the six-year-old’s family have been doing all they can to support the Brittle Bone Society.

With this latest fundraising effort, Max’s father, Steve, said they are aiming to get the single into the top 10 of the charts.

Steve told the Gazette: “I was talking to James around the time of my 50th birthday and he said that he had written this song. He showed me the lyrics and they were just so fitting.

“And I don’t like to do things by half, so we played around with the idea of Max singing on the song and I did some research into how to get a song in the charts.

“I found that to get in the top 40 you need between 8,000 and 10,000 downloads, so I thought aim for the stars! We would need between 100,000 and 110,000 downloads to make the top 10.”

The aim of the bid is to raise awareness of brittle bone disease, which has no cure.

In his efforts to raise awareness of the song, which features a choir of Max and his friends singing the chorus, the youngster has been rubbing shoulders with a number of celebrities, including Liam Payne from One Direction; Lennon Stella; Jonas Blue; Jamie Cullum; Seasick Steve; the winners of Strictly Come Dancing 2018 Kevin Clifton and Stacey Dooley, and his favourite CBBC host Dr Ranj.

Singer Rick Astley also had a sneak peak of the song.

He said: “It’s brilliant, it’s really, really, really good.

“So check it out and buy it, maybe even buy it twice, download and buy it twice: its Max and friends, In Our Bones for the Brittle Bone Society and it’s actually really good as well. Well done Max.”

All the money raised from the single, which was released today (Friday), will be donated to the charity.

To date, the Edney family has raised more than £70,000 for the charity, with the majority of the funds raised by Steve’s 12 events in 12 months last year.

Steve added: “We wanted the video for the song to highlight the different journeys people with OI go through and how it impacts their lives.

“We just hope that people will connect with the song and understand the message of it and help us spread more awareness of the condition.”

Max’s single will be available to buy, download or stream from all major music platforms from today (Friday).

The family is looking for as many sales as possible in seven days to try to crack the top 10. For more information on the Brittle Bone Society, go to
