WELSH harpist Catrin Finch and Senegalese kora player Seckou Keita play The Haymarket tomorrow (Friday).

This multi award-winning collaboration between two adventurous musicians delivers a stunning exhibition of musicianship.

Drawing deep on their own diverse traditions and transforming them with remarkable synergy, Catrin and Seckou have built a formidable reputation for performances which blur the boundaries between classical, folk and traditional genres, leaping over cultural barriers.

Catrin and Seckou were first introduced in 2012 and a long-standing friendship and mutual respect was born.

Fast-forward five years, several awards and with over 100 concerts worldwide later, the project shows no sign of abating.

Their second album, SOAR, recently won the fRoots Critics Poll Album of the Year 2018, made the Songlines Top Ten World Music Albums of the Year 2018 and MOJO’s Top Ten World Music Albums of 2018.

You may also have heard them on the soundtrack of Toby Jones’ new comedy series on BBC Two, Don’t Forget the Driver.

OperaUpClose bring their acclaimed 2011 Olivier Award-winning English version of Puccini’s La Bohème to The Haymarket on Friday, 31 May.

One of the most accessible and moving operas ever written, La Bohème charts the ups and downs of a group of idealistic graduates as they bicker, party, try to make ends meet and follow their dreams.

Aspiring novelist Rodolfo discovers a harsher reality when he falls for immigrant cleaner Mimi, while his best friend Marcello’s tempestuous relationship with his on-off girlfriend Musetta brings humour and fireworks to the stage.

The comic elements of this hugely popular production heighten its tragic ending, with audiences saying this 21st century Bohème affected them like no other.

Robin Norton-Hale’s thought-provoking libretto is delivered with vigour and pace and performed by some of the UK’s top young singers.

Gigs in The Forge at Anvil Arts during June include Terry Lee Hale on the 6th.

He has been making great records for 25 years, first making an impact on the Seattle scene. His album Bound, Chained, Fettered appeared in 2016, built from truthful stories sung with a voice that reflects and carries the emotional weight of time, obstacles overcome and wisdom earned.

Making a rare visit to these shores, those who have seen Terry Lee Hale in action will tell you that this is as good as it gets.
