A DISUSED barn could become the new home of production for artisan beer.

A planning application has been submitted to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council to convert a dilapidated barn on land at Dummer Down Farm to accommodate the Breach Farm Brewing company.

If approved, the application would allow the company to brew and distribute its range of beverages.

The planning design statement submitted to the borough council read: “To meet the high demand for small-medium commercial premises in this location, the applicant proposes redeveloping the parcel of land to construct a commercial shed to add to the collection of agricultural/industrial buildings in the courtyard.

“The new building will be of a simple L-shape plan and occupy the existing footprint.”

As well as being a home for the company to brew artisan beer, the firm aims to sell beer and food from the premises.

Currently the Dummer Down Farm site already houses a garage, café, indoor cricket centre, joinery workshop, and cricket bat manufacturer.

Breach Farm Brewing is run by Tim Hartigan and his partner Lori and since forming the company they have produced four signature brews.

The couple describe their beers as “brewed in an American style” with “every beer being different and has a unique flavour profile.”

The planning statement added: “The existing building is in a poor condition with leaking roof and walls.

“Some of the supporting beams and columns are severely damaged and it is considered unfeasible to convert or upgrade for commercial use.”

The courtyard and parking that surround the building are to be retained while the rear of the building will have a spot for a delivery vehicle to park separated from farm traffic.

The applicant seeks to demolish the current barn to make way for the housing of the new brewery.
