THE fate of the Camrose site is set to become clearer in the coming weeks.

It was reported at the community club public meeting on Thursday last week that a planning application had been submitted to the borough council for the site.

It is expected the application will outline the demolition of the current stadium, with houses being a key element of the buildings to replace it.

However, the application is still to be registered before it becomes available for public comment.

Speculative plans to redevelop Basingstoke Town Football Club’s home of more than 70 years were revealed in March last year

Residents living near The Camrose off Western Way had received a flyer about a potential planning application for the site.

The leaflet, produced by Basron Developments Ltd, states a plan was to be submitted to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council with a proposal to build up to 90 new homes, a 90-bedroom hotel and a drive-thru fast food restaurant.

It is unclear at this stage whether the submitted planning application matches the initial suggestion.

As has been previously reported, part of the Camrose land is earmarked to be used in a forthcoming £18.6m revamp of Brighton Hill Roundabout by Hampshire County Council.

In January, the transfer of this 0.86 acre piece of land owned by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council was approved.

The plan is to create a small new link road, to run through both privately-owned and previously council-owned land, near to Western Way, joining with Winchester Road.

Western Way would then be exit-only from the roundabout, with no entry, according to the initial proposal.

However, this option for the roundabout works is expected to only be carried out if the football club’s relocation to a Winklebury goes ahead.
