PLANS to replace more than one kilometre of water main in Newnham will be at the centre of a public exhibition later this month.

South East Water has outlined its intentions to replace old and burst-prone pipelines in Newnham Lane, Newnham Road, Crown Lane, Tylney Road and Ridge Lane.

The company will hold a public drop-in session at Newnham Club Room, in Newnham Road, on May 14 from 3pm to 7pm to discuss the project with residents.

Project manager Jeremy Dufour said: “We’re delighted to announce our plans to revamp the water network in the area.

“Customers will know that there have been several burst water main issues in recent years and the pipework is reaching the end of its design life. Therefore, starting in July, we’re planning to replace pipes in Newnham Lane, Newnham Road, Crown Lane, Tylney Road and Ridge Lane.”

To protect motorists, pedestrians and the South East Water’s contractor, the roads affected will be closed in phases.

The scheme, which is due to start on July 29, is expected to last a total of 37 weeks.

Mr Dufour added: Jeremy continued: “While we appreciate this may be an inconvenience to some customers and motorists, it is essential that we protect everyone from our working area.

“Given the issues the area has had in the past, we know that residents will reap the benefits of this project once it is complete.

“I would encourage anyone with questions to come to our drop-in session at Newnham Club Room between 3pm and 7pm on May 14 so we can discuss these with you.”
