THE team behind a community café project in Old Basing has been busy serving up treats to support good causes.

Volunteers running The Village Café, based in the Parish Room at St Mary’s Church, have been delighted with the response from visitors since they opened in October last year.

The regular Friday afternoon café has been a hit, and the venue, which serves drinks and cakes, has proved popular with people of all ages.

Each term, The Village Café is supporting a local good cause, and among those charities to benefit from donations so far has been Ark Cancer Centre Charity and the Pink Place.

Mark Jones, director of fundraising and communications from Ark, was presented with a cheque for £1,119.21.

He said: “Thanks to everyone at The Village Café for their kind and generous support. Ark is honoured to be one of the first charities to receive support from this wonderful community venture.

“It is great that this local project is providing a lovely facility for the Old Basing community and a boost for local good causes.”

Debbie Filer, one of the team behind The Village Café project, said: “We have been delighted with the response to the opening of The Village Café, and are pleased that it is going from strength to strength.

“We look forward to seeing more people coming through the doors over the coming weeks and months on a Friday afternoon, and supporting other good causes.”
