REPAIRS to a centre which supports people with brain injuries have taken place thanks to a community scheme.

Emcor UK, a facility management company based in AWE Aldermaston, rallied around to help deliver a range of much-needed improvements at Headway Place, near Basingstoke hospital.

Headway Place, is a centre providing long-term, slow stream rehabilitation for people who have sustained brain injuries.

The facility was brought to the attention of Emcor UK after a member of its team pre-existing brain injury had attended Headway.

After hearing of the work and support provided by Headway, staff from Emcor UK gave up their time to repair concrete blockwork on the raised vegetable beds and install handrails either side of the external steps.

The group also gave a new lease of life to a portacabin used for storage in the grounds of the Headway facility, by creating a more visually appealing outlook for people attending the facility.

Evelyn Vincent, chair of trustees at Headway, said: β€œOn behalf of all the clients, staff, volunteers and Trustees at Headway, Basingstoke, I would like to thank you and all the Emcor UK volunteers who gave their time, expertise and efforts to your Community Projects initiative here.

"The overall effect of painting our portacabin, repairing the raised garden beds and constructing handrails either side of our rear garden access steps has transformed the look and enhanced the safety of all that use our gardens.

"We are very grateful and wish you great success with your future projects.”

Before they left the Headway site, the volunteers also painted a bench which was bought in memory of one of the patrons at Headway who passed away last year.
