TRAFFIC has now cleared on the M3 motorway following a multi-car collision which earlier caused lengthy delays.

Five cars were involved in a road traffic collision on the westbound carriageway of the M3 near Junction 6 (Basingstoke) this morning (Saturday).

Traffic was queued back to Junction 5 with delays of over 60 minutes at one point.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 9.47am, where nine casualties were treated with no serious injuries reported.

Vehicles were held for 20 minutes with all lanes closed as the five cars were moved to the hard shoulder and debris was cleared from the carriageway.

The incident was cleared with all lanes open and vehicles recovered by 11.46am.

Highways England shared an update via Twitter, warning drivers they may still face delays to journey times.
