IN 1974, a Canadian film crew came to Basingstoke.
Their intention was to feature growing UK towns following the London overspill.
The crew also visited Runcorn in Cheshire as this was another growing UK town.
Basingstoke town centre as we now know it began life in 1968. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s it continued to grow.
Then in the late 1990 a lot of the lower town including the New Market Square was redeveloped for the building of Festival Place which opened in 2002.
This week's photos are video stills taken directly from the film footage, so they will vary in quality.
