THE MAYOR's Parlour was changed into a jail, all in the name of charity.

Last month, Naomi House & Jacksplace challenged supporters to have their boss imprisoned for charity, only to be released when they raised bail of £999.

The Jail & Bail event featured two prisoners that were banished to the ‘cells’ in the mayor of Basingstoke and Deane’s Parlour, at the Civic Offices, including Guy Wright, director at Freestyle IT and Paul Morgan, director of fundraising at Naomi House & Jacksplace.

The pair were held from 10am and were faced with a number of forfeits throughout the day, including having a cream pie thrown in their face, cracking eggs on their heads and eating as many cream crackers as possible in one minute.

Guy said: “My team at Freestyle IT talked me into taking on this challenge for our Charity of the Year. I was appalled by the crime that I was falsely accused of by my team and I’m glad I got the opportunity to prove my innocence.

"Thank you so much to everyone who helped me exceed my original target and raise £1,375. I would encourage others to take part in this event and support such a worthwhile cause next year.”

The ‘Judge’ for the day was the mayor of Basingstoke and Deane, Councillor Seán Keating, who said: “It was a pleasure to host the Naomi House Jail and Bail fundraising event. Everyone had fun, there was much laughter in the Parlour and it was all for an excellent charity.”

The event raised more than £2,000 to support life-limited and life-threatened children and young adults at Naomi House & Jacksplace.
