THIS week Flashback Thursday concentrates on a particular decade of news from the archive.

Here are some bits and pieces from the 1970s.

The 70s was a decade of strikes - postal workers, miners and dustmen. It ended with the ‘winter of discontent’ in 1978/79 when ITV went off the air for five months.

A three-day week was imposed during February 1972 to save on electricity at the start of the miners strike.

The Beatles split in April 1970, while Rainbow, The Magic Roundabout, Tiswas, Mr Benn, and Bagpuss were a few of the cult children’s television programmes to grace our screens.
