AN AWESOME display of the appliance of science was shown when pupils visited a leisure attraction for British Science Week.

iFLY, based at Basingstoke Leisure Park teamed up with inventor and founder of Gravity Industries, Richard Browning, to give visiting youngsters a science lesson they would not forget.

The pupils were treated to a demonstration of how Mr Browning's ‘Iron Man’ jet suit works in action as well as their own experience with the sensation of flight inside the iFLY wind tunnel where wind speed reaches up to 110mph.

Trevor Haines, UK manager at iFLY indoor skydiving, said: “At iFLY, we’re committed to inspiring the next generation of scientists, engineers and mathematicians and we are proud to offer educational workshops to pupils giving them the chance to experience the effect of forces, such as friction and air resistance, on their own bodies.

"Essentially, our wind tunnels are awesome interactive exhibits and offer the perfect way to experiment with science first hand.”

Mr Browning, inventor and founder of Gravity Industries, said: “STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) are key subjects and we are here to help drive home the importance of these in the curriculum and really shine a light on what is possible if you sink your teeth into these.

"I think it is really nice for companies such as ours, Gravity Industries and for iFLY, to offer this kind of engagement and workshops to inspire the next generation which is only a good thing.”
