A SECOND bite of the cherry is being made to build a new set of flats in Tadley.

As previously reported in The Gazette, BradPlan LLP had applied for permission to build 17 new apartments on land adjacent to Aldermaston Road and Boundary Place, which was rejected.

However, a fresh application to provide two one-bedroom and 15 two-bedroom apartments has been presented to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.

In the new application, it states that despite the concerns put forward by AWE, the applicant believes there is a need for houses in the area.

The planning statement submitted to the borough council read: “The revised development would not be significantly different to the extant permission and therefore no objection was raised on emergency planning grounds at the pre-application stage.”

If granted permission, as well as a three-storey building, the site would provide accommodation for 25 new parking spaces for residents of the new homing.

The planning statement added: “The development has been planned positively in order to embody high quality and inclusive design, following a considered appraisal of the identity of the surrounding settlement and the site’s setting.”

The original application was rejected after an 11th hour appeal from the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) raising concerns the application was not in keeping with the Office for Nuclear Regulations.

Councillors rejected the plans on the basis of the AWE objection.
