A SECONDARY school is looking to raise more than £700,000 to breathe new life into one of its leisure facilities.

The current swimming pool at Cranbourne school is used by a wide range of students and community groups, but the decades-old facility is in need of a major facelift.

Currently, the pool itself is operational, but the surrounding facilities, such as changing rooms, heating system and insulation are “not up to scratch.”

In a bid to modernise the facility, the school aims to put a new roof on the pool, install an effective ventilation system and extend the building so it links up with the sports hall.

To achieve this, the school needs to raise around £711,000 to facilitate the redevelopment and is calling on the support of the community and business to help with the project.

Headteacher at Cranbourne, Jane Aplin, said: “We do have money set aside at the school, but not enough to fund the whole project.

“Currently, we are working on a business plan with the board of governors to see what funding we can access and what ideas we can put forward in terms of fundraising for this new development.”

As part of the potential redesign, Mrs Aplin said the improved facilities would create an ambient temperature within the pool, which would reduce the school’s carbon footprint and help save energy costs.

The Friends of Cranbourne group will be helping to organise a host of events to generate funds towards the new project.
