STUDENTS from Basingstoke College of Technology (BCoT) recently received a cabin crew masterclass courtesy of EasyJet, with staff visiting the college earlier this month to give Level 3 travel and tourism students a detailed insight into a range of careers available in the aviation industry.

EasyJet staff Dale Barrell, recruitment coordinator and former cabin manager, and Katie Stroud, cabin crew member, gave the students valuable advice on the role of cabin crew within an airline, as well as tips on searching for jobs in the industry, how to prepare for interview and what to expect at airline assessment centres.

Anthony Bravo, principal of BCoT, said: “I would like to thank the staff at EasyJet for coming into the college and giving our travel and tourism students a real insight into careers in the aviation industry. Our work with employers, such as EasyJet, ensures our students are ready to enter the world of work upon completing their studies here at BCoT.”

Students undertake cabin crew training as part of their Level 3 Extended Diploma in travel and tourism, learning from staff who have a wealth of experience in the industry.

This year the college unveiled a brand new £30,000 cabin crew simulator, which includes aircraft chairs, meal carts, a tannoy system and full health and safety equipment - including oxygen masks, fire extinguishers and fire hoods.

The cabin simulator aims to give BCoT students an experience of working on an aircraft, with previous students progressing to work for airlines including British Airways and EasyJet.

As well as learning in the classroom, travel and tourism students also recently got the chance to visit FlyBe’s training centre to get hands-on in a full training aircraft, which will ensure they leave BCoT ready for the world of work.
