MANY students at Everest enjoy extra curricular activities and when the holidays roll around many enjoy the nice weather we have by tanning, swimming etc.

However, Pyran Watson is planning to spend his holiday a little bit differently to the average Year 10 student this summer.

In late July, Pyran is going on a 17-hour flight to Uganda and will spend three-and-a-half weeks there doing multiple activities with the Explorer Scouts.

Last year, in January, he was planning to go to Holland with his family but then this opportunity popped up from a website offering a very memorable trip.

While interviewing him I asked what he would get to do while he was there.

For half of the time he is there, he will be building schools, bathrooms etc. for people in Uganda.

His favourite thing about this experience is that he will “gain new memories, see the differences from England to Uganda and to watch the happiness from the teachers and students when they get to use the schools he will help to build.”

Even though he is really excited about this trip, he knows there will be difficulties such as working in extreme heat, he will have less food and the lack of facilities.

For the second part of his trip Pyran will spend a week in a Scout hut learning new skills and the rest of the time he will be doing an array of leisure activities such as a safari, kayaking etc.

Overall this experience will be a trip to remember for Pyran and Everest wishes him a safe flight and a nice trip.
