A BRIGHTON Hill Community School pupil is going the extra miles in memory of his granddad.

Jack Jupp is running 5km at the Basingstoke Run in May and cycling five miles in the Big Wheel in July in aid of St Michael’s Hospice.

The 12-year-old has a particular reason for supporting the Aldermaston Road hospice as staff their cared for his granddad Derek, known as Bee, who died after a battle with prostate cancer when Jack was four.

Jack’s mum Joanne, a vice patron for St Michael's Hospice herself, said: “We have fundraiser for St Michael’s most years, but now Jack is a bit older he can make his own decisions and he wanted to this.

“It is nice thing for him to do as he had a really strong relationship with his grandad and saw how the hospice supported him. He has run a couple of cancer research runs before as well, but this one is a bit more personal.”
