PLANS to build more than 1,000 new homes on the site of a golf club have gone on show to the public.

Consultation events were held on Friday and Saturday about the proposed development of Basingstoke Golf Club.

Bloor Homes, the developer of the site, outlined its initial proposals, which include up to 1,100 new homes, walking and cycle routes, a ‘local centre’ potentially consisting of a day nursery, retail and a community facility, football pitches and a children’s play area, and a potential gypsy/ traveller site.

There are two entrances/exits planned for the site, both connecting to the A30.

One will be traffic light-controlled but the nature of the other entrance/exit is uncertain.

It should be via a roundabout which encompasses the A30 and the entrance/exit to the Hounsome Fields development of 750 homes directly opposite the Golf Club site to be built by Linden Homes.

It is understood the roundabout must first be built before the Hounsome Fields site development can begin which has a knock-on effect to the Golf Club site.

However, Bloor Homes has also outlined an alternative entrance/exit - another set of traffic lights instead of the roundabout which would also give access to Hounsome Fields.

Bloor Homes has indicated Hampshire County Council would be agreeable to the idea which would result in four sets of traffic lights between the Hatch Warren Retail Park roundabout on the A30 and its junction with the M3.

At the consultation events, held at the Golf Club and at Hatch Warren Community Centre, the public was encouraged to provide feedback with around 300 people attending.

Bloor Homes representatives at the meeting were keen to stress the proposal is in its early stages with the planning application to be submitted shortly, believed to be by the end of the month, only the first aspect.

The application would be for outline consent with specific details on layout and design to come under a follow-up application in late 2019 or early 2020.

Bloor Homes anticipates a decision on the first application by autumn this year.
