PART of a major Basingstoke road will be closed overnight next week as part of flood prevention works.

Churchill Way West will be closed in both directions from Thornycroft Roundabout to West Ham Roundabout on March 5 and 6 between 9pm and 6am.

The closure is to to allow for works in a long-awaited flood alleviation scheme to be installed in Buckskin.

The main entrance to Basingstoke Leisure Park on West Ham Roundabout will not be affected but the secondary entrance and exit will also be closed, according to Hampshire County Council.

During the closure, the road surface where drainage pipes were installed across Churchill Way West will be permanently reinstated and fresh road markings will be applied.

Diversion route for non-HGVs is via the Ringway and Roman Road.

The diversion route for HGVs is via Kingsclere, Overton and B3400.
