AS THE weather starts to warm up, a Basingstoke charity is calling on people to get involved in some summer fun.

Pelican Cancer Foundation is set to host its Summer Fun Run at the War Memorial Park on Sunday, 30 June.

The run comprises of a 2.5k or 5k course which features a bubble run so participants can make a splash.

Fundraisers are being invited to have a splashing time dashing through the foam in a tunnel run, on an inflatable mega-slide, a bubble pit and over soft hurdles – before relaxing in the park with a picnic. There will be children’s entertainment and tasty treats available to buy.

Pelican’s chief executive Sarah Crane said: “We’re delighted to bring the foam-filled summer fun run back to Basingstoke after the success of last year – it’s a great way to team up with pals or bring the family for a bubble bath with a difference.

“We hope you will take up the challenge and have a great day out. It will boost the charity’s funds to help us continue our vital research into treatments and cures for below the belt cancers.”

To take part in this year’s summer fun run, entry cost £20 per person, but teams of six can get a promotional deal of six tickets for the price of five.

Participants are asked to raise at least £25 for the charity.

Proceeds will raise vital funds for the Pelican’s ground-breaking work, at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, furthering research and education into bowel, liver and prostate cancers.
