HOOK was rocking with the launch of a new music club.

Echo Hotel Music Club held its first gig on Saturday to a packed-out house at Elizabeth Hall.

The concert saw The Rufus Black Band and Jade Like The Stone take to the stage to perform to the sold-out audience of music-lovers comprising just under 200 people.

The event was the brainchild of Hook parish councillor and live music fan, Verd Nabbs, who has set up the Echo Hotel Music Club.

Verd said: “It was a sell-out on the night, and I was really pleased.

“Both Jade Like The Stone and The Rufus Black Band were really rocking and had the crowd going.

“We were very nearly up to capacity in the hall.”

The idea came after Verd and others in the Hook area were sent a questionnaire by Hook Parish Council in 2018 about how to improve the area, with the suggestion of a live music offering coming up.

Being a fan of live music, Verd started to make it happen.

He added: “It was very successful, and people were really supportive. The interest is growing for events like these, and we are getting some really popular bands.

“The Rufus Black Band definitely surprised a few people and they really gelled and got the place rocking.”

While, according to Verd, the live music scene fans can be a bit understated in showing their appreciation after a gig, there was positive feedback.

Verd said: “On the way out, someone said to me, ‘not too shabby, Verd’, which is one of the best compliments!”

The next Echo Hotel Music Club gig will feature Xander and the Peace Pirates on March 10, with Jo Harman making an appearance on April 20.

Due to the popularity of these events, it is advisable to buy tickets in advance.
