FOLLOWING the success of last summer's event, the popular outdoor cinema will make a return to the War Memorial Park this year.

This year three musical films will be broadcast on a big screen under the stars as part of Basingstoke Festival 2019’s Pictures in the Park programme.

The screenings will take place on consecutive days on July 3, 4 and 5.

First up on Wednesday, 3 July is Baz Luhrmann’s sumptuous Oscar-nominated period romance Moulin Rouge, starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor as Satine and Christian, who meet in the famous titular venue in the Montmartre Quarter of Paris and fall in love.

On Thursday, 4 July, raise your hands in the air to clap along to the music of Queen as featured in the 2018 box office smash hit Bohemian Rhapsody, starring a Golden Globe-winning Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury.

Then on Friday ,5 July, revisit some of the hits of Swedish supergroup ABBA in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.

For each screening gates will open at 7.30pm on each evening. Tickets will cost £10 plus booking fee. Limited deckchair seating is available for £15 plus booking fee.

Cabinet member responsible for arts and heritage at Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, Councillor Terri Reid said: “These evenings in the park are always an incredibly popular part of the Basingstoke Festival programme and they sell out quickly.

“The atmosphere is wonderful as people come together and gather in the park to laugh, cry and sing together. I would certainly recommend booking your tickets early.”
