A FATHER-of-three has been jailed for six years for his role in a drink-driving incident which killed his partner.

Tenny Turner, 30, of Hound Green Road, Hook, pleaded guilty to one count of death by careless driving while under the influence of alcohol and one count of being in possession of a Class A drug when he appeared at Winchester Crown Court today (February 7).

The court heard that Turner was almost two times over the drink drive limit when his Citroen C2 left the carriageway on the A287 before striking a number of trees and overturning on February 25, 2017.

As a result of the collision, 31-year-old Roxanne Moran, the mother of Turner’s three children, was thrown from the vehicle and seriously injured.

She was taken to Southampton General Hospital, where she died five days later due to her injuries.

Officers initially arrested a 22-year-old man from Camberley after the collision, before learning that Turner had been behind the wheel.

Turner was interviewed and subsequently charged with causing death by driving without due care and attention whilst over the prescribed alcohol limit and possessing cocaine.

Following the hearing PC Mark Furse of the serious collision investigation unit at Hampshire Constabulary said: “This was a tragic case which once again highlights the catastrophic consequences that drink and careless driving can have.

“Time and time again we try and educate people around the dangers, yet there are still people on our roads who persistently ignore this. Sadly, as a result of this, we continue to see deaths on our roads.

“I hope this case serves as a reminder to anyone who considers getting behind the wheel having had a drink, or allows their attention to lapse whilst driving, of the risks that this poses not only to your life but to the lives of others.

“Our thoughts are with Roxanne’s family at this time.”

In sentencing Turner, Judge Andrew Barnett handed the defendant a six-year jail sentence for the death by careless driving and eight months for the possession of a Class A drug, which will run concurrently.

Turner has also been banned from driving for nine years.
