THE deadline to put forward your nominations for Basingstoke and Deane's unsung heroes is fast approaching.

For the 16th year running, residents are urged to nominate individuals, organisations and projects that have made a special contribution to the community for this year's A Place to be Proud of Awards.

This year will see the introduction of two new awards.

The Green Community Award has been designed for a group who is committed to work together to make Basingstoke a cleaner, greener and more sustainable place to work and live.

The other new award for 2019 is the “Above and Beyond” award, which is for someone employed who goes way beyond their job description in serving the community.

As with last year’s awards, the winner of the Business and the Community category will be chosen through a public, online vote.

The event is organised by Destination Basingstoke and run in partnership with the NHS Foundation Trust, Festival Place, Gazette Newspapers and Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.

Felicity Edwards, managing director of Destination Basingstoke said: “Destination Basingstoke is delighted to organise these awards that celebrate the best of our community and the amazing people that make Basingstoke and Deane such a special place to live.”

Nominations can be made online at or by downloading a nomination form.

The closing date for nominations is March 22, with finalists being invited to the awards ceremony which will be held at The Haymarket Theatre on the June 6.
