MORE than 50 firefighters and support crew were called out to tackle a blaze at a farmhouse.

The fire took over 75 per cent of the roof space and second floor of the three-storey building in Frog Lane, Rotherwick, though no-one was injured.

Fire crews were called out at around 3.20pm on Saturday to the incident with engines from the Odiham, Hartley Wintney, Basingstoke, Fleet, Overton and Tadley stations dispatched along with support from Dorset & Wiltshire fire service.

Crews used 13 sets of breathing apparatus, five jets, three hose reel jets and positive pressure ventilation to tackle the blaze in which no animals were involved.

A Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Crews have been praised for bringing the fire under control in tough conditions, with snow on the ground, icy road access and extremely cold weather."

The cause of the fire is still to be investigated.

Crews were stood down from the scene at 12.40am.
