A LEISURE faculty in Baughurst has reopened after being given a facelift.

The Hurst Leisure Centre, based at The Hurst Community College, Brimpton Road, was once again open to the public last week following extensive refurbishments.

Headteacher of The Hurst Community College, Roger Jones, welcomed the mayor of Basingstoke and Deane, along with other key shareholders, to the unveiling of the new-look facility.

The updated equipment and leisure facilities were made possible in part by funding granted by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s Local Infrastructure Fund (LIF).

The LIF contributed £150,000 towards the project, with the Greenham Trust granting just over £50,000 and Loddon Valley Lions supporting the work to the tune of £5,000.

Fitness equipment company SportsArt also supported the new gym at the centre by donating some essential equipment.

During the visit the mayor, Councillor Seán Keating, described the centre as “an excellent facility” and said there was no doubt that it would increase community involvement, particularly in the areas of sport, leisure, health and wellbeing.

At the opening, Mr Jones described the updated elements of the leisure centre which were built in the late 1980s.
