AFTER having a modicum of success in the industry in their youth, four musicians from Basingstoke have come together once again to a great response.

While We Grow, made up of Josh Strobeck, Tom Meredith, Connor Allan and Robert McGregor, formed to tell the hardships of life through music.

With drummer Tom and two of the band’s other members first meeting while studying at Queen Mary’s College (QMC), it took time and growth for the quartet to appear in the form they do today.

“We started writing and jamming together when we were at QMC,” Tom told The Gazette.

“We had a bit of success in our younger years, having a song featured on a charity CD which was available in HMV.

“We all disbanded for a few years, but we met up again recently and we had gone through a lot in our personal lives and wanted to write again.”

The quartet quickly realised they had all been through some difficulties in life, whether it be losing a job, a loved one or a relationship. But they found music was the best outlet for what they were feeling.

Tom added: “That is kind of why the name is While We Grow, as we are still growing as people and we want to write how we are going through these experiences.”

In December, the band released their first track Away and the response was a lot more than any of them had expected.

With the video having more than 1,000 views at the time of publication, Tom explains that the reaction was something they never expected.

He said: “At the end of the day we are just four normal guys. We recorded the song and I think we all shared the video on our own personal Facebook pages once, and it just seemed to go from there.

“A lot of people have said to us that they really relate to the song which is fantastic, as we want to be very honest with our music and we know that we aren’t the only ones who are going through these things.”

With a leaning towards heavy rock, the band pull influences from everything from Alterbridge to mainstream pop music.

Having only released two songs so far, the band are now looking to write and record their debut EP before hitting the gig circuit.
