EVERY year, secondary schools across England welcome new Year 7 students in September.

We thought for this article we would speak to Everest’s transition students and see how they were getting on.

After asking two students what it was like when they first came, they said that “it was very different to primary school which was scary but it was still an exciting experience. We also found it very easy to settle in.”

Obviously coming to secondary school was scary and a new thing for them and you would expect the atmosphere and lessons to be the biggest change, however, it was actually the uniform.

Even though the lessons were not the biggest change, they found them harder and more challenging.

Over the time period of five months, they have settled in and gotten used to the lessons and their teachers making the lesson now fly by. The teachers have used the five months to get to know who their new students are and their strengths and weakness.

Obviously coming into secondary there is a lot more theory. The two students we interviewed said that they enjoy dance and PE and surprisingly maths as well seeing as they see it as a challenging subject.

Two of the main things that they were concerned about was whether they would make friends in a new place and fitting in, but their worries were unnecessary and they both quickly made friends and found their way around, which shows how friendly Everest is.

One of the students is from Bramley and said that it is a long journey to get to Everest, but added that it is well worth it.
