POLICE are stationed outside a Merton Road home after a woman's body was found yesterday morning.

Officers were called to an address at 7.54am on Friday, January 25 where the 73-year-old was discovered, and a 47-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

One neighbour came to offer tea to the officers on guard at the property, and said police had made them aware of the incident yesterday evening.

The resident, who wished not to be named, said: "We feel bad we can't help more really.

"It makes me sad it happened on our road."

Another Merton Road household said police had also called on their door, but they first realised there was an incident from seeing flashing blue lights of the ambulance outside.

They said: "I think it is quite unexpected and nobody quite knows what has happened. It makes it all the more uncertain."

The police presence however and door to door calls, they added was reassuring.

The neighbour, who also wished not to be named, said: "They [police] have been around we've seen them doing the rounds last evening going door to door.

"That's quite good at least they're letting people know.

"Hopefully we figure out exactly what happened."

The suspect continues to stay in custody as the police continue the investigation into the incident.
