A BRAMLEY care home invited people to be trained up to become a Dementia Friend.

Cherry Blossom care home, in German Road welcomed guests on Tuesday to learn what it's like to live with dementia and turn that understanding into action. Free and open to anyone of any age, Dementia Champions at Cherry Blossom will be able to teach the group about the small ways we all can help those living with dementia.

Dementia Friends Information Sessions are run by volunteer Dementia Friends Champions, who are trained and supported by Alzheimer’s Society. The Dementia Friends programme is the biggest ever initiative in the UK that aims to change people’s perceptions and understanding of dementia.

On the day, guests also had a chance to meet the team at the home, to discuss any questions they might have about care.

General Manager Gigi Despoja said: “We’re really looking forward to making more Dementia Friend’s in our local community. The condition itself can be quite lonely and frightening, and the more understanding we have the better. Our team here at Cherry Blossom are always available to provide support and advice about care to anyone who needs it. If anyone is unable to make it on the day but would like to pop in for a tour and a cup of tea, our doors are always open.”
