Giving Students a Voice

In September 2017, two students in Year 11 at the time were given the green light to form a pupil-led organisation that would give the student body at Brighton Hill Community School an opportunity to have their say; this idea would eventually become the Student Voice, which is still going strong over a year later.

The BHCS Student Voice is a group comprising representatives from all year groups which meets regularly to discuss changes that can be made to improve Brighton Hill; examples of positive change that have come about as a result of the Student Voice include improvements in the efficiency of our school canteen, members being available at our Home Learning Support Club to aid younger students with homework, and we are currently looking into our school's water fountains.

Student Voice also gives pupils an opportunity to put together events to support causes we believe in - on our school Sports Day in July 2018, a group of Year 9 and 10 students ran a food and drinks stall to raise money for Mind, a mental health charity, which was very successful, and we plan on doing the same this year.

We are so thankful to have been given the opportunity to make real change around our school, and hope that as we grow and continue, the plans we put in place today will improve BHCS students' lives in the years to come.?
