AN OVERTON businessman and extreme kayaker has raised nearly £2,000 for the village’s community pool.

Scotty Sherwell took on Llanberis Falls, a 127-foot-drop, pictured, back in October dedicating the funds collected for Lordsfield Swimming Club (LSC).

The club committee are encouraging donations to bump Scotty’s total up to reach the mark, which will help the running of the pool once it opens.

Lauren McCann, from LSC, said: “Huge thanks and congratulations to local craftsman and kayaker Scotty Sherwell who successfully kayaked down the Llanberis waterfall to help raise funds for Lordsfield Swimming Club at Overton pool.

“He did brilliantly, walking away without any injuries. He has almost hit the £2,000 mark - you can still sponsor him online.

“The funds will be incredibly useful as running a pool doesn’t come cheap and we have various expenses for works that need to be completed before we can open.”

Overton Methodist Church also joined in the fundraising spirit raising £300 for the pool from weekly coffee mornings.

The trustees are waiting on Hampshire County Council to confirm a leasehold agreement which would then allow the pool to open.
