ROADWORKS lasting 10 weeks will get underway at the end of the month.

South East Water will begin work in Houndmills Road from Monday, 28 January to install 400 metres of a new water main.

Temporary traffic lights will be used to keep the road open during the course of the works while access to homes and businesses will be maintained at all times.

A South East Water spokesperson said: "This £110,000 scheme is necessary to improve the capacity of the network and ensure we can continue to maintain water pressure to the area as the community grows.

"As a safety precaution for pedestrians, motorists and our contractor, temporary traffic lights will be used to enable motorists to use the road while work takes place.

"Our contractor’s staff will work as hard as they can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.

"Our project team will be holding a drop-in session for local businesses and residents to find out more about the scheme and for us answer any concerns you may have."

The drop-in session will take place between 2.30pm and 7.30pm at Starbucks, in Houndmills Road, today (Monday).
