A NEW car dealership could be set to open in Chineham.

Automotive retailer and distributors Lookers PLC has applied for planning permission to develop a new dealership in Crockford Lane, near the Chineham Business Park.

The firm is looking to convert units one and two of the industrial estate into a showroom with external space to display vehicles.

If planning permission is granted, the applicant seeks to demolish the warehouse which is currently on the site to allow for the new dealership.

A planning statement submitted to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council read: “This is a full planning application for a new motor trade dealership with associated workshop and MOT facility, along with external used vehicle display.

“The site being located adjacent to Crockford Lane and to the north of the centre of Basingstoke.

“The proposed development is for a new motor trade dealership with associated external used vehicle display, customer car parking and compound.

“The proposed works include demolishing the existing warehouse, which will open up more of the site and allow for the creation a building more suitable to the requirements of the dealership.”

As well as the new car dealership, the landscaping of the site could change, with one of the two current existing access points being changed to create an area of green landscaping.

Taylor Design Architects, who produced the design statement on behalf of Lookers said that the design and selection of materials for finishes will meet the latest best practice guidelines.

The design statement read: “This statement demonstrates that the proposed development adheres to the principles of good design and sustainable access.

“The proposal is the result of careful consideration and responds to the requirements of a prime site.
