UNSUNG heroes in Basingstoke and Deane will once again be recognised as nominations for this year’s A Place to be Proud of Awards are now open.

For the 16th year running, residents are urged to nominate individuals, organisations and projects that have made a special contribution to the community.

This year will see the introduction of two new awards.

The Green Community Award has been designed for a group who is committed to work together to make Basingstoke a cleaner, greener and more sustainable place to work and live.

The other new award for 2019 is the “Above and Beyond” award, which is for someone employed who goes way beyond their job description in serving the community.

As with last year’s awards, the winner of the Business and the Community category will be chosen through a public, online vote.

The event is organised by Destination Basingstoke and run in partnership with the NHS Foundation Trust, Festival Place, Gazette Newspapers and Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.

Felicity Edwards, managing director of Destination Basingstoke said: “Destination Basingstoke is delighted to organise these awards that celebrate the best of our community and the amazing people that make Basingstoke and Deane such a special place to live.”
