A CARE home for people with learning disabilities based in Winklebury has been rated as ‘good’ by the healthcare watchdog.

Cornview, based in Roman Road, has received its new rating from the Care Quality Commission, (CQC) after an inspection on October 30 and November 1.

The CQC issued its report on December 13, and the Liaise Loddon-run care home kept its ‘good’ rating.

Cornview was given a clean bill of health in all five areas that the CQC inspect, including the quality of leadership, safety and effectiveness, among others.

Managing director at Liaise Loddon, Deborah Cornick, said: “We are very proud for another one of Liaise homes to be rated ‘good’ by the CQC.

“Cornview is home for three gentleman with severe learning disabilities and autism.”

Deborah praised the efforts of the staff and workers, and added: “The support workers are dedicated in offering a varied person centred lifestyle for each one of the them. The registered manager, Sylwia Duda, has been with the organisation since 2006 and took over the role as registered manager this year.”

Part of the CQC’s report on Cornview praised the staff that worked there. It read: “People were supported by staff who cared about and valued them.

“People were supported to express their views and be involved in making daily decisions about their care and support.

“Staff spoke respectfully about people, were mindful of people’s rights to make choices and were aware of people’s need for privacy and dignity.”

There are processes in place to help those who may have difficulty in communicating, including using Makaton.

The language programme uses signs and symbols to help people communicate, and staff at Cornview had received training in Makaton and used it to help those who needed support.

Part of the report read: “Staff were committed to supporting people using this approach and folders included photographs celebrating people’s achievements.”

Director of care Cathie Wyatt said: “It is amazing to read the report especially the comments from other professionals, but most of all what makes us so proud is that we are recognised in the report for all the amazing work that we do every day.”
