FAMILIES had a magical morning singing carols in a barn accompanied by real animals.

Dozens of people attended the festive event on Saturday at Miller's Ark Farm, near Hook, where they were welcomed with a warm mince pie on the freezing cold day.

Everyone sat on hay bales to join in with the songs played by a band.

Miller's Ark staff then brought in animals, including a tiny baby donkey who walked in as Little Donkey was being sung, and a pony with antlers on it's head to accompany the tune Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer.

Mary and Joseph carried in Baby Jesus and lay him in a straw bed as the audience sang Away in a Manger, followed by We Three Kings, when three people dressed in royal finery entered the barn.

The highlight was when Father Christmas arrived as everyone sang Santa Clause is Coming to Town, and he danced around the barn much to the delight of the children who waved to him as he passed by.

Afterwards visitors could cuddle and stroke all the animals, including goats, sheep and donkeys, while enjoying warm winter punch and other refreshments.

The carols were part of a programme of festive events at the farm, including a tea party with Santa's elves, a live nativity in a candle lit barn and a Santa's grotto.

Elizabeth Miller, who established the farm in 1991, said: “Miller's Ark is privileged to have been part of the local community for 27 years, sharing our friendly farm animals to bring love and fun into the lives of so many. Don't miss our open days on January 3 and 4.”
