WHEN the news of Ben Wilson’s death rippled through Oakley Football Club, the team rallied around the family to show their support.

Now, in the festive spirit, on Sunday, 16 December a team of Santas and Elves will face-off to remember Ben.

The game, held at The Camrose football ground, will feature two teams of people involved in the club which the 18-year-old's brother plays for. From coaching staff to mums and dads, all will be involved in the game.

All the proceeds from the game will be donated to St John Ambulance, after a trained member of the public gave the Basingstoke College of Technology student treatment at the scene of the incident in September.

Scott Waissen, one of the organisers of the game told The Gazette: “The impact the news of Ben’s passing had on everyone involved with the club was huge.

“We knew that we had to do something to support his family and I just floated the idea of the festive football match and everyone seemed to be on board with the idea.

“Everyone involved in the game is linked to the club, because at the end of the day we just want people to have fun and remember Ben.

“Though I’m sure once the game starts some people will start to show their competitive side!”

The game, being sponsored by Armstrong Fluid Technology, was organised after Ben, from Overton, died in September when he was involved in a collision with a Volkswagen Polo in Micheldever.

As well as the game, there will be a raffle where prizes include a five class pass to Funk & Twist fitness, a ladies wash, cut and blow dry by Ross @ Carey’s and a £100 gift voucher for R & R tyres and much more.

Scott added: “At the end of the day we just want to create a fun day and have people come down and run around and play a bit of football.”

Tickets to the match cost £5 and kick-off is at 4pm.
