LAST month in Flashback Thursday, I took at look back at the build up and the official opening of Basingstoke town centre in 1968.
Whilst the first phase opened in November 1968, many shops were not ready to start business, so a lot more came along during Phase 2 the following year.
In 1969, there was the launch of the new £285,000 Basingstoke Library which is still in the same area today.
Work was also progressing fast on the new Basingstoke Sports Centre which was opened by The Duke Of Edinburgh and Prince Charles in 1970.
Here is a pictorial look back at the shops of 1969 in Basingstoke.
