A CRICKET club has been left “devastated” after an act of vandalism has ruined part of its historic green.

Members of Hartley Wintney Cricket Club received reports that the green had been damaged, upon arriving at the Mount Pleasant location to inspect the damage, they found the grass had been cut up by tyre tracks.

Police received reports that at around 3.30am this morning (December 10), a vehicle drove on to the green causing extensive damage to the lawn.

The vehicle left the field via the north side of the pitch onto the High Street (A30).

The vehicle is believed to be a 4 x 4 with yellow rather than white headlights, possibly silver in colour.

A post on social media from the cricket club read: “We do not know if this was anything more than just someone thinking it was amusing or a deliberate and targeted attack, but needless to say we are devastated.

“If you hear / overhear anything in and around the village it would of course be very much appreciated, though in a community such as ours we would hope that it isn't anything from within of course.

“If you have time and a rake, you could be invaluable as we begin the process of trying to make good.”

Police are asking that anyone with any information contact them on 101, quoting reference 44180459565. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
