PUBLIC services students studying at Basingstoke College of Technology (BCoT) have been presented with another premium bulletproof vest by SafeGuard Clothing for in-class demonstrations on safety and threat types.

For the second time this year, the body armour manufacturer and distributor has donated the valuable piece of equipment to help the college deliver hands-on learning.

Students will use the new vest in role-play exercises that aim to demonstrate how protection against different weapons can work.

SafeGuard Clothing develops its equipment in collaboration with the police, Ministry of Defence, fire and ambulance services. Their research and development of new materials helps to enhance the wearability of protective body armour for front line services.

Thanks to BCoT's strong links with the manufacturer, students can continue to learn with the latest industry-standard equipment and gain a greater understanding of the working mechanics of bulletproof vests. This will provide them with first-hand experience and a considerable advantage in learning how to protect themselves against the different threats they may face when in their chosen field of work.

Thomas Bowman, Academic communications manager at SafeGuard said: "We work very hard to implement an applied industry-based model in our manufacturing process to enhance the quality of our tactical vests. Now we have focused on sharing this knowledge with colleges like BCoT so their students can make the best progress in advancing in their chosen fields."

Anthony Bravo, principal of BCoT, added: "We would like to thank SafeGuard Clothing for donating this state-of-the-art teaching equipment. We work closely with a number of leading businesses, such as SafeGuard, to ensure our students have access to the latest facilities and equipment so they are able to progress from BCoT ready for a successful career in their chosen industry."
