BASINGSTOKE Sea Scouts have joined other groups for an all-action educational weekend.

Members joined other Scouts, Explorer Scouts and Police Cadets from Hampshire and Surrey at the Bentley Copse Emergency Services event last weekend.

The youngsters were put through their paces in a variety of tests including Met Police scenarios dealing with gang fights, being arrested, and the process of police custody.

Members from the London Search and Rescue team took a team through a real life search in the woods, while on the Saturday evening, the groups were told that a car crash had resulted in several injuries and that two people had ran off, leaving one team to deal with the casualties, while another team put out the car fire.

Another team needed to find the missing driver who was drunk in the woods and the last team watched videos to test them on their observational skills.

Rescue team member Debbie said: “The weekend was a great opportunity to share skills with kids that they might use now or maybe inspire them sometime later down the line whilst also giving something back to the community.”

11-year-old Basingstoke Scout Millie said: “I enjoyed the First Aid, doing all the compressions and CPR because I learnt how to do it and use it if someone needs help.”
