WHITCHURCH causes were in for a treat as representatives were presented with nearly £9,000 of charitable contributions on Sunday.
Co-op, on Bell Street, hosted a celebration day, bringing its customers, colleagues and chosen charities under one roof.
The Kingfisher Centre received £2,989 to buy more furniture to expand its lunch club and day care capacity, the Whitchurch Association received £3,100 to complete defibrillator coverage across the town, and Whitchurch Football Club received £2,878 to purchase portable training lights for new training pitches.
Store manager James Lovell said: “It was all about engaging directly with the members that have helped raise such an incredible amount of money, and we had a bit of fun with food and drinks as we gave the money out.
“It’s fantastic that the Co-op enables us to support our local community in this way and I’m sure the causes are going to be able to do a lot with the money raised.”
The causes were chosen through Co-op customers signed up to its membership scheme, where one per cent of Co-op branded products and services goes towards local chosen causes.
The next round of funding will go to Furlock Homes Animal Care and Whitchurch Parish Hall.
