A NUMBER of cars were smashed into and had steering wheels stolen at a dealership in Hook yesterday.

Police are investigating after officers were called to Imperial Cars, in Taplins Farm Lane, following a break-in on November 22.

Each of the nine cars had their windows smashed to gain entry, and steering wheels and interior fittings were grabbed from eight BMWs and one Volkswagen CC.

The incident comes after a series of steering wheel thefts in Basingstoke overnight on November 19.

Sergeant Marcus McDevitt said: “This happened sometime between 12.35am and 2am on November 22, so we are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area that night and saw anything suspicious.

“We know that similar thefts have happened in Basingstoke this week, so I’d like to take this opportunity to urge residents to remain vigilant.

“If you see anyone hanging around vehicles in your street that causes you concern, let us know.

“As our investigations continue, any information you have could help.”
