A SCHOOLGIRL has scooped two silver medals and a bronze at the Biathle/Triathle World Championships in Egypt.

Ten-year-old Lily-Mae Lancaster Evans, who attends Four Lanes Junior School in Chineham, is a member of Basingstoke-based Wessex Wyverns MPC and attended the prestigious UIPM Modern Pentathlon competition in Hurghada three weeks ago as part of Team GB.

Lily-Mae won a silver medal in the mixed triathle relay and an individual bronze in the under 11s triathle. She also won a triathle team silver medal.

She competed in the under 11s biathle competition - a run/swim event - as well, and came 18th.

Triathle is a continuous run, swim, shoot event, where laser pistols are used.

She competed against children from all over the world, including South Africa, Belarus, Germany and Portugal.

To compete as part of Team GB in Egypt, Lily-Mae had to qualify in a series of competitions held around the country.

Earlier this year she became the British under 11s triathle champion and National Schools biathle champion for Year 4.

Lily-Mae said: “I was very proud to compete as part of Team GB. There was a lot of stiff competition from children all over the world, but the hard work paid off.

“Michelle is a brilliant head coach at Wessex Wyverns and she gives everyone in the club the best teaching and support. She makes us want to give 100 per cent every time we compete.”
